Queensland Oaks: Bargain replaces Duais as favourite after barrier draw

A favourable draw has seen the Mark Newnham-trained Bargain usurp rival filly Duais as favourite in Saturday’s Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm.

Recent Group 2 The Roses runner-up Bargain will jump from barrier four in a final field of 14 starters for the $600,000 feature.

Bargain was a $6 second-elect before Tuesday’s draw but has surged into $4.50 outright favouritism with TAB fixed odds.

Duais had been the $4.50 favourite before the draw and is now on the second line of betting at $6 alongside Charms Star and Grace And Harmony.

Duais will be surrounded by an armada of Chris Waller-trained fillies after the Edward Cummings-trained three-year-old drew awkwardly in gate 12.

Waller will saddle up close to half the Queensland Oaks field with six runners trained by Australia’s leading conditioner.

The Roses winner Only Words will be on the immediate outside of Duais in barrier 13 while fellow Waller-trained filly Ruru (14) has the widest gate.

Easifar is in barrier 10 while Signora Nera (7), Charms Star (6) and Grace And Harmony (3) have drawn the best of the Waller contingent.

Australasian Oaks winner Media Award has barrier 5 and is rated a $9 chance for the Group 1 fillies event.
