Stuart Kendrick is confident two-year-old filly Apple Tart will be hard to topple at her home Sunshine Coast track on Sunday after blinkers on last start proved the winning move.
The coast trainer has a good opinion of the daughter of Sebring and she won strongly with blinkers going on over 1200m on a heavy track at the Easter Monday meeting at Doomben on April 4.
Kendrick has no concerns about her stepping up to the 1400m of the QTIS Class 1 Handicap on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
Ryan Maloney will ride in what could be something of a litmus test to see if the filly is up to winter carnival standard.
“She is a nice filly and I wanted to race her over 1400(m) to get a bit of a guide to then make some decisions about what we do with her,” Kendrick said.
“She got a bit lost when she was first-up over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast in March but the blinkers going on really helped her concentrate last start.
“On breeding, she looks like she wants 1400(m) and she was very strong through the line last time on a heavy track.”
