Twelve of the country’s best sprinters will contest The Everest, which is billed as the “world’s richest race on turf”.

Prizemoney has been bolstered to $15 million for the fourth edition of the race – up $1 million from last year.

Each of the 12 runners are selected by slot holders, who each invested $600,000 for a spot in the race.

The rest of the prizemoney is comprised from wagering, sponsorship, broadcasting and race day revenues.

Although it doesn’t have Group 1 status, The Everest is already held in high esteem.

The race is run over 1200m under weight-for-age conditions.
