Verry Elleegant is set to go for George Main Stakes

Trainer Chris Waller is confident Verry Elleegant won’t be feeling the after effects 0f a taxing first up win when she lines up in Saturday’s Group 1 George Main Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

The supreme daughter of Zed produced one of the best fresh performances of her career when sustaining a long run and showing tremendous fighting spirit to salute in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) earlier this month.

Waller is hoping Verry Elleegant can repeat the performance in the George Main next weekend.

Verry Elleegant is currently $2.80 favourite with bookies for the feature with a full list of nominations set to be released on Monday morning.

Waller will likely have four starters in the race with Verry Elleegant joined by Kolding, Star Of The Seas and Imaging in the Group 1 field.

Verry Elleegant narrowly edged out Doncaster runner-up Star Of The Seas in the Group 1 Winx Stakes while Imaging ran a luckless fourth in the same feature.

The Matthew Smith-trained Fierce Impact franked the form from the race after the third placegetter claimed a third Group 1 in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Waller believes Verry Elleegant – which he hopes can be a Melbourne Cup contender – can add to her own Group 1 resume after impressing the premiership winning horseman following her Winx Stakes triumph.

“She came through it very well,” Waller said.

“We sent her to Wild Oaks for four nights and she came back in bucking her brands off so to speak.

“I think that was the key to her recovery. Her appetite was better.”

Waller gave Verry Elleegant and Imaging track gallops at Rosehill on Saturday in preparation for their next Group 1 assignment.

Both horses worked separately but didn’t miss a beat in two pieces of strong work on their home turf.

“It was a good piece of work just to blow out the cobwebs,” Waller said.

“They both got up to top speed the last part and it was just short and sharp.

“I didn’t want them both having a tough workout, they are pretty forward in condition.

“They didn’t need to have a searching workout and both horses got to their top speed without being put under pressure to be there.”

James McDonald will stick with Verry Elleegant, Kerrin McEvoy rides Imaging, Star Of The Seas has Sam Clipperton aboard and Tommy Berry pilots Kolding.

Waller’s star filly Hungry Heart will headline his Tea Rose Stakes assault on the same day.
