John McEnroe was far from impressed by Karolina Pliskova at the start of the women’s Wimbledon final against Ashleigh Barty. Pliskova came from a set down to defeat No 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling Wimbledon semi final on Thursday.

Heading into the first Wimbledon final of her career, Pliskova would have wanted to get off to a fast start against the world No 1.

But Barty got the ball rolling early on with a love-service game and gave her opponent no room to breathe from the start.

The Australian tennis star won the opening 10 points to open up a 3-0 lead before securing the double break.

The Centre Court crowd were stunned into silence at how quickly Barty appeared to be securing her first Wimbledon title.

And McEnroe, a three-time Wimbledon champion, was left stunned at Pliskova’s poor start to the match.

“At the moment Pliskova is totally frozen,” he said on BBC.

“This is a complete disaster so far. She hasn’t even won a point.

“It feels like she’s not moving at all. She needs to put out of her head what just happened.

“It’s exactly what you don’t want to happen.

Pliskova soon found her footing in the first set though to bring up a more respectable score.

She broke back on Barty’s serve to love to clinch her first game of the set at 4-1,

But then both players struggled on their serve with breaks of serve in four consecutive games.

Barty eventually regained her composure to take the first set 6-3 and put herself in the driving seat to win the Wimbledon title.
