Novak Djokovic retirement message sent by mom with dad sharing concerns
Novak Djokovic’s parents recently raised concerns over their son continuing his tennis career, insisting that the 23-time Grand Slam winner has nothing left to prove. The 36-year-old missed out on an eighth Wimbledon title earlier this summer, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller.
Djokovic did get revenge on the Spaniard, though, beating him two sets to one in the final of the Cincinnati Masters on Aug. 20. The Serbian is in good shape heading into the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open, which is his joint-worst having only won the competition three times in his career.
Mom Dijana and father Srdan believe that their son could retire now with nothing to prove. Srdan, in particular, worries that tennis has Djokovic missed important things off the court and hopes he calls it quicks in the next year. Speaking in a recent documentary named Novak Djokovic – Untold Stories, Dijana said: “It’s all up to him. As far as I’m concerned, he can retire right now – he has won everything.”
Father, Srdan, added: “As far as my wishes for him go, he has already fulfilled them all seven/eight years ago. The rest is this amazing bonus. Tennis is only one segment of his life, not his whole life.
“I expect him to be recognized for what he will do after his career ends and after he leaves the tennis world, which I hope will happen next year. And for Novak to slowly but surely… It’s not the end, but in a year-and-a-half let’s say.
“My wish as a father – I think for some time that he should have stopped working this extremely difficult job. It’s physically and mentally challenging and very demanding – with him being fully dedicated for 30 years, and not taking his foot off the gas, there is not much time for other things in life.”
Djokovic seemingly has other ideas, insisting that he’s still motivated to compete and win. And Wimbledon is unlikely to be the last time that Tennis fans see the great Djokovic in a singles final.

“Of course [the] journey is still not over,” he said. “I feel, you know, if I’m winning slams, why even think about, you know, ending the career that already has been going on for 20 years.
“So I still feel motivated, I still feel inspired to play the best tennis on these tournaments the most, you know, Grand Slams. Those are the ones that count I guess the most in history of our sport.”
Djokovic enters the US Open as the number two seed behind Carlos Alcaraz. The two are red-hot favorites for another showdown to decide the latest major winner.
