Alright, without further ado, let's dive in here, are the 10 tips to help you crush online poker. Alright, let's dive into these, 10 Poker tips. The First One is, arguably it's hard to say which one's the most important, but without this one, you are sure, to be doomed, and that is Choose the Right Stakes. So online poker has more variance, which means you're going to have more swings than you will in Live Poker. And this is for a number. of reasons. One of them being that the edges, or this skill gap between the players is smaller simply because you can't. see them. And so it's harder to make really great profitable, decisions in every spot because you have less information. This. also income combination with the fact that you're usually playing, six handed instead of nine handed, all goes to increase your variance. So the stakes that you play relative to your bankroll is the fundamental decision you need to make and. make sure that you make correctly so that all the rest, of the strategy can help you to earn money. Without this, you're, definitely going to go bust. So for more on this topic, I put. together an awesome blog and video called How to use a, variance calculator. And it's going to walk you through exactly the swings involved the bankroll, you need the win rates you can expect at live and online poker for both cash games and tournaments. It's at the link below. So Check That Out!., The Second one is to be sure to trust the site or app that you are playing on. Now here at conscious poker, we don't, endorse any particular sites, you're gonna have to do your own. research on this one. But never keep money on there that you, aren't comfortable risking or cannot afford to lose. And be, sure that you are comfortable with the site that you're playing on and complying with any laws in your area. The Third. Tip is to manage your environment. Online Poker is a, lot different than Live Poker, because you are in control of, the environment. Live Poker kind of does the work for you, you. have to physically go to the casino, you're at a poker table,. there are other people, it's a little bit easier to be in the zone in distraction free. In online poker, you're going to be. playing from the comfort of your home. And there's all the. distractions that come with that, whether it's other family, members in the House, your dog, your kids, or just the, distractions that come with being at home, such as your phone, being on your computer, or your phone and watching TV,, or all these other things that you could be doing. So it's really important to create a very peaceful Zen Environment that you can really get in the zone and focus. I know a lot of, my clients love to listen to a low, like Lo Fi type of music. with like low beats in the background and just have their you know, noise cancelling headphones on and really be in. the zone focused on the game. This way you will observe all. the information and will be distraction free, avoiding any, unnecessary mistakes. The Fourth Tip is to be aware of the faster. pace of online poker with respect to Live Poker, you don't have time to sit and tank and think about all these things that you think about in the live game, you don't have time to, think about all of the ranges and equities versus the ranges. and these things, you need to be able to calculate your odds real quick. And you need to have an intuition for what the right, decision is. Now you do this by building up your skill set in the lab and studying more poker and the more of these hands that you study and things that you review and the better you get your game to be overall, the more your intuition will be in, line with the math. So be sure to study up before so that when, you come to these online games with faster pace, you're ready
to make those real time decisions. The Fifth Tip is get used to. playing with no live reads. Many people report to me that when. they're transitioning to online, they have trouble because. they're a field player. They they're used to relying on their intuition and looking at their opponent and Thinking about the. psychology and the history, and all these awesome nuances that, come that are specific to Live Poker. When playing online,, you're going to have to rely more on the math, you're going, to have to be better at the game theory, you're going to have to understand which hands are inherently profitable to play in. the situation, because it is simply a profitable situation., What is the math behind your bet? How often is your, continuation bet going to work relative to the amount you're. risking? What is your equity or chance of winning relative to the odds that you're getting these types of more analytical. mathematical situations are very important to have a strong foundation for because it's the way that you're going to be making decisions on the felt. Also be aware of timing tells. And these are tells that you give off based on the speed with, which you act. For example, one that I see very often with, students and clients is they act very quick when they have a weak hand. So for example, when check calling a flop, they check in they call really quickly, and then they instantly check the. turn, this usually means they have a weak hand. If they had a, strong hand that was considering raising the flop, they would. have thought a little bit longer. So this instant acting, timing tell is a sign of weakness. And you want to be. careful when doing that, especially against better more. observant opponents. The Sixth Strategy, which I think would also help most people in live games, is to play fewer hands., Now this is even more important in online poker. Because the the, game is tougher and players play more conservative, they played, better, and they also play more aggressive. So you need to play. solid preflop fundamentals, you really need to have a game theory approach to preflop play, which is not really deviating, from what the math says. So to get a better grip on preflop, play, you can simply download our preflop charts, which are available at the link below. They're totally free. And they. tell you which hands to play from which positions in both six, handed and nine handed games, you're also going to get a free quickstart guide to preflop play. Because we at conscious poker understand that every game is unique and your opponents are, different than the opponents of someone else. So just having the. charts, it's a little bit like too narrow of a focus. So we help people craft an overall strategy for their preflop game, and respective to the games they're in and make adjustments, to these charts as necessary. So you can download that at the link below for more information on which hands to play in online poker. The Seventh Strategy is be careful when calling raises, especially when there are players to act behind you. So in. the same way, when you play Live Poker, you typically want to look to the left and see who's left to act before you make any, decisions. You also want to do that in online poker, you want. to understand how aggressive the players are behind you. Because if you're flat calling raises from early position openers, and. there's players to act behind you, there's a good chance you, will simply not see the flop, because you're gonna get three. bet or reraised from someone behind you. If the players, behind you do call, you're now out of position and sandwiched against two players. And this is typically a losing spot to be, in. So you really want to avoid calling raises too often, when, you do call raises, you categorically want to have hands that can bust other hands. So if you have a hand like eighths, it's a great hand to call a raise with because you can bust. other strong hands. Inversely you don't want to be calling raises with hands that are like trouble hands or trap hands, hands like king, jack, offsuit, king, queen offsuit, those are, hands where you're typically going to lose a big pot or when. a small pot so you want the opposite a cemetry you want the, idea of potentially losing a small pot if you miss or winning a big pot if you hit and you want to make sure that that's, married to this idea that you're likely to see the flop and realize your equity, you're likely to actually get a chance to hit that big hand because there are not players behind you, that are going to reraise you out of the pot. The Eighth Tip I. have for you is to continuation bet often when you are the, preflop raiser when you're in position and when the board is.
dry. So that is the trifecta that you want to look for. You, want to be in position with the lead and ideally be betting on boards that favor your hand over your opponent's hand. So for example, if you raise in the cut off, and the big blind calls,. and the board comes ace king Deuce This is a board which favors the cut off because he can have more ACEs and more, KINGs in his hand range than the big blind can have. So this is a board which favors the cut off. And therefore he should be, betting in spots like these on dry boards, you want to bet often, and you, want to choose a small sizing, Just to Break Down Some Simple Math Here! If you bet 1/3 of the size of the pot, so for example, you bet $33 into $100 pot, your bet only needs to work 25% of, the time for you to break even. So if your opponent folds one, out of four times, you're automatically profitable. Now when you combine that with your equity when called or your, chance of winning, if your opponent calls your bet, which, you're going to have if you have some sort of draw or pair that. increases the profitability of your bet. So the idea here is to, bet often on dry boards use a small sizing because it doesn't, have to work often for you to show an immediate profit. The Ninth Tip is to three bet more or reraise more with strong hands when you are in position. Typically in live games, you see. people doing a lot of calling. But in online games, you're going to see a lot more re-raising the pace of the game, is faster in the style of the game is more aggressive. So you, want to be competing here as well. And you want to take your strongest hands and be re-raising with them, especially, when you're in position. You also want to mix that in with a. couple selective bluffs hands that block your opponent from. having a strong hand. So a hand like Ace Five suited or ACE Four. suited makes it less likely that your opponent has aces Ace King, and Ace Queen, which are the typical hands that can call a. reraise. So by combining strong hands with a few selective, bluffs, you're going to make yourself more difficult to play against, keep yourself balanced, and ultimately put yourself in a, profitable spots to win chips preflop. The other hands that you might want to consider three betting are hands that are Too Strong to fold, but not strong enough to call with. So for. example, if the cut off opens, or hijack opens, and you are on. the cut off with king, queen offsuit. This is a typically, good hand three bag, you want to play this pot heads up in. position with the lead like we talked about before, you don't. want to flat call here and then let the button three back and, force you to fold or let the button and the blinds call. And now you're in a four or five way pot with a hand that doesn't, play well in a multi way pot. So you want to be three betting. these hands if they're strong enough to play otherwise, just, fold them if they are not, hands like king queen and Ace Jack, typically fall into this category of ideal candidates for three betting as a bluff slash value bet it's kind of a merged strategy here with these types of hands. The Final Strategy I'd, like to impart on you in this video is to Fold when Facing. Heavy Action on the Turn, or the River. So typically, if you have a strong hand and you're betting along and you're you're trying to get value from your hand, and you find yourself in a spot. where you suddenly get raised for a big amount on a later Street, most of the time, especially at these small and, mid stakes games, you're going to be beat. So if you're playing. micro stakes or small stakes, and you find yourself you know. you bet the flop, you bet the turn, you bet the river and. someone goes all in, in that spot. Most of the time, I know, I'm making a generalization in the game where you can't really, do that. And that's sort of blasphemy, but most of the time,. you're going to be beat. So you want to be folding here the, majority of the time and the simple reason is that your opponents are not exploiting you here, they are not bluffing, often enough for you to justify calling without a very premium hand. So when you get heavy action on the turn, or heavy, action on the river, be very conservative unless you have a very strong holding or a very strong draw, which is getting the right price to call.
