I’m going to show you 4 of the top expensive natural herbs in the world. wait till you hear the insane prices of these herbs and benefits they can do for the body. So if you’re feeling like a baller and want to splash out on these crazy herbs, watch this video Let’s go through history, there have been times that prices of herbs, spices and flowers have skyrocketed. Did you know that at one point , tulips sold for approximately 10,000 guilders, at that time, that was equal to the value of a mansion on the Amsterdam Grand Canal, this was during the tulip mania of the 1600s when the price of tulips just kept on going on up But how about now, what’s pricey and why is it pricey and are there any benefits to these expensive herbs. Some obvious expensive herbs which are not going to discuss are plants like opium poppies and coca leaves which some serious drugs are made from, those wont make the list for obvious reasons, but yes, I’m going to do the top 4 rundown. If you like this video, be sure to drop a like and comment to let me know. So, let’s get straight into it. So number 1 is panax ginseng also known as asian ginseng or korean ginseng Right now, in the UK a kilo of panax ginseng powder will set you back 239.48£, that’s over 300 dollars. To put that in perspective, siberian ginseng powder, another type of ginseng will cost you £50 for the same amount, this is one of the more expensive herbs. Personally, I still buy this herb every so often because it’s powerful but the price tag is crazy. The reason for this is the high price of ginseng has been increasing due to growing demand, scarcity and the fact it takes between 5 - 10 years to mature. It’s also a wild herb, so supply cannot be easily increased as it grows without human intervention, so when demand is high, and supply is low, price will go up. If you do buy panax ginseng make sure you buy from a reputable company as they will practice sustainable cultivation Fun fact, Panax ginseng takes its name from panacea. Panacea means cure for all . The second herb is american ginseng American ginseng dried will set you back $800 to $1600 And Higher Per LB. These prices are no joke. For my UK watchers, 1lb is about 450 grams. That’s crazy, both panax ginseng and american ginseng expensive but are are powerful herbs, some of you are wondering what the difference is, well, it is believed that American ginseng works as a relaxing agent, whereas the Asian variety has an invigorating effect but both are grown in the wild. American ginseng is actually native to america, although now it is grown in other countries. It’s native to the deciduous forests of the eastern United State. Fun fact, did you know that it was over-harvested in the mid-1970s and was subsequently defined as an endangered species. Currently, 18 states issue licenses to export it. This could be one of the reasons for the high price. Pretty interesting stuff. Some of the benefits of this root are reputed to lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels, protect against stress, enhance strength and promote relaxation. The third most expensive herb is vanilla Since we bake with it and it’s relatively inexpensive as an extract, we don't actually consider the price of the raw ingredient but right now, the trade price of vanilla pods will set you back a whopping £819.60 per kilo that’s over 1000 dollars per key. Wild prices. There’s money in herbs, I tell you. One reason vanilla has gotten so expensive is, it's hard to grow. Vanilla vines take two to four years to fully mature, also, problems such as failed crops, terrible weather has made it over 10 times more expensive than it was a few years ago. But this herb still has good benefits. Some of the benefits of vanilla are it's antibacterial, it has antioxidants, it's good for mood and high in nutrients. But is this worth the price? Or should we just continue to bake with its cheaper extract instead, comment below So the fourth most expensive herb is saffron A kilo of saffron costs, depending on the quality can cost between US$1,100–11,000/kg Yes you heard that right. That’s into today's prices and By weight the spice is worth more than gold. The price has consciously increased since 1974 the average retail price was $1,000 per pound, or US$2,200 per kilogram Some of the health benefits of saffron are it contains a good variety of powerful antioxidants, it may improve mood and mental health, it may aid appetite control, boost eyesight and it also acts like an aphrodisiac. For that price tag, is it worth it, you guy be the judge. The reason why it’s so expensive is because it’s very labor intensive, it’s said that more than 80,000 crocus flowers must be grown, cared for, hand-harvested and processed to make one pound of saffron and that process requires someone to remove each flower by hand. Crazy. If there are any ballers watching this, thinking what to buy me as a gift, I'd prefer panax ginseng pls, thank you, let me know in the comments which herb you would want.
