Hey everyone Ryan and Kayla here and we are gonna , do our booze cost more than our cruise Carnival Edition so earlier this year in February we got , off the celebration I gotta say it was probably one of our favorite Cruisers of all time and not . only paper chip I think yeah favorite ship we did just get back from Alaska so that's definitely up , there but we really enjoyed the the celebration ship and we wanted to share uh what we thought . about the cheers package as it was our first Carnival Cruise so today what we're going to . talk about is what is it the pros and cons you know average drink prices and drinks per day . to make it worth it some things to consider some things we didn't know and that we just like kind , of learned on the cruise so we want to share those with you and then at the end we're going to share , our opinion on whether we think it's worth it okay so pretty much what the drink package is is you pay a certain price there's two different prices on Carnival you can pay the pre-cruise price which is 59.95 US per person per day you can also buy it on board it's a little bit more expensive on board so we always say it's best to buy it before you get on but basically what it means is all of your drinks are included in your cruise so as long as your drink is less than twenty dollars um it's , included so you get everything from cocktails wine beer um the cool Frozen cocktails by the pool you got your specialty coffee so your lattes and your caramel macchiatos teas you can get bottled waters juices pop everything pretty much Under the Sun is going to be included in that drink package , so you can drink as many of those as you want um with the exception of alcohol alcohol is limited to 15 drinks per day the other thing you're going to want to think about is the . exclusions so anything that's walked around with by the pool in a really cool looking promotional glass or maybe in a pineapple or something like that those are not going to be included those are , going to be an extra charge same with when you're in event spaces at night they walk around with , trays of shots and get everyone all riled up and convince everyone to buy a shot and then haha a . surprise it's like eight dollars U.S per person so keep in mind that those things aren't going to , be included so if it seems too good to be true it probably is the other thing that we were kind of , surprised by is the um disembarkation when you're getting off the ships on poor days they have big jugs of waters and stuff like that in other drink packages that we've gotten those are included on Carnival they're not yeah I was really surprised yeah other things that are not covered by your drink package is anything over 20 so if you're looking at a let's say a glass of wine and it's 22 . dollars it's not going to be included but anything that does go over the 20 Mark so if you're , getting a bottle of wine or a more expensive drink if you have the drink package you'll get 25 off so that's something so in a nutshell that is kind of what the drink package is is you prepay , for your beverages before you get on the cruise that way when you're on the cruise you don't have . to worry about how much does it costing me every time I get a drink and we'll dive into a little bit more of the pros and cons of the drink package but that's essentially what you're paying for . so next we'll talk about what the average price of a drink on the cruise will cost that way you . can do some number crunching later and find out if it's going to be worth it for you so first . off we got a bottle of water is about a dollar 50. I'll skip a few feel free to pause here if you want to take a closer look especially coffee is on average 4.25 beer seven dollars you , know wine frozen drinks specialty coffees you're kind of in that you know 10 to 13 dollar range . so overall the prices are actually pretty good we found comparison to other cruise lines but uh here is what the price list is kind of for Carnival so you'll be able to see uh you know how many drinks it'll take for you to kind of hit that break even so keep in mind that you don't actually , have to be a tall drinker the cat is on the drink pack spend 68 6 to eat coffees do juices pops . energy drinks you can even get the non-alcoholic pool drinks so if you want a pina colada but you . don't want it with rum they'll make that for you so it doesn't necessarily mean the drink package . isn't a good idea if you're not drinking alcoholic beverages yeah and something really important to , consider when buying the cheers package is going to be how many sea days versus how many Port days that you have because let's say you take a seven day cruise and you have three port days and four sea days we are likely going to get more of your money's worth having more sea days you're definitely going to be purchasing more drinks hanging out by the pool having a good time and it'd be much easier to hit your uh kind of break even point on those days so we're going to review . for you now what a typical sea day looks like for us versus a typical Port day so when you're doing . that math in your head you can kind of see it and decide is this going to be worth it for me or not . so on a typical sea day we're going to start out our morning with Ryan going downstairs to . get a coffee for us and bring it up to me um so he'll go down to whatever yeah Java blue or uh r820 r820 he'll get his um a specialty coffee which is usually a cappuccino maybe a white mocha and then he'll get me my London Fog um and then we'll generally head down to the pool . if we're on a Caribbean itinerary and the pool because you only have 15 drinks with the cheers . package uh you can't it kind of forces you to lengthen out your day yeah we got a strategy we've , got a strategizer you're going to use your drinks so we'll have like three or four pool drinks head back to the room uh get ready for dinner head out for a pre-dinner drink then we'll have two or , three glasses of wine at dinner usually have like a little Post in a drink check out one of the bars on board then we're usually heading out to a show so that means we're probably gonna have a drink in whatever venue the show is in and then depending on what's Happening that night if it's you know some dancing involved Ryan's going to need you know a little liquid courage um so that's kind of .

what our typical sea day looks like yeah and those you know when the weather's nice you're having , a great sea day it's kind of really hard week came quote we actually hit the limit I think two , or three times in our celebration cruise and I was kind of thinking about it throughout the day I . was like okay I'm getting close we'd have to check we'd have to log into our account and be like okay . one two three four five oh okay we're about this many and the carnival Lido deck if you've cruise . control before you know it's quite the vibe so it is very easy to hit these 15 drinks per day so that's what our typical sea day looks like now we'll go over a port day so for the port day it's , a lot harder to get your money's worth that's why I mentioned that point earlier there's like portes for sea days you know you're typically off the ship for the majority of the day let's . say you're You're gone from like eight to five and you just capitalize on getting your morning , coffee and and then you're coming back in and around dinner time so in order for you to really get your 15 drinks you'd be kind of going pretty hard but generally you know to hit that break even . point it's only like six or eight drinks per day so if you come back you know you've already had , your coffee so if you have a couple glasses like a pre-dinner cocktail couple glasses of wine . at dinner and then you like proceed into the nightlife it's very easy to get that six to eight drinks so even Port days although it does play an impact on your decision it's still not a deal , breaker and in terms of you know whether the drink pack is going to be worth it for you and there's been times when we come back from our port and grab a coffee and because it's you know we're , tired we need a little pick-me-up to get us through to dinner so yeah it definitely depends on , your itinerary too if you're visiting areas that you've been to before you're just doing this as a , getaway or maybe there's not much going on in the port and you're coming back at like two o'clock , well yeah you're gonna get more of your drinks per day in so it just depends on you and it depends on , the ports you're visiting but it's definitely you know things to think about okay so now we're gonna , jump into some pros and cons about the cheers drink package so I think the biggest Pro is that . it's a fun stress-free experience because you've already paid for it you're not wandering around . the ship doing Mental Math trying to figure out oh my gosh how much money have I spent on drinks , so far so it's kind of nice to be able to relax on your vacation and just have a drink when you want . to drink yeah that is definitely the biggest one for me I just I don't even want to think about the cost of the drinks I just you know I see it I want it I want to try it whatever you don't , need to worry about it very early the only thing you have to worry about is that 15 drinks yeah , another Pro is that again you have no big Bill at the end so you've already paid for it you don't , have to think about it and then when you get off the ship you're not getting this big giant bill of all your drinks that you've had throughout the whole Cruise it's already paid for yeah it's definitely easy just to budget beforehand get it paid get it out of the way so another Pro for us . is you get to try new drinks without fear of not liking them so let's say I was our first time on , a Carnival ship we've never been to Alchemy bar we've never been to any of these bars so we didn't know if we were gonna like any of these drinks so every time we ordered a drink it was kind of a risk and I mean they're not they're not as expensive on some other cruises but at 12 bucks a , pop you want to like your drink so with the drink package it kind of takes away that fear so if you , try it and you don't like it whatever you just order a new one I feel like me personally I find that I'll just stick to what I know I like as opposed to trying something new if I'm just paying . a la carte so I definitely agree with this Pro big time as well it's a lot of fun we tried some of . these like cool drinks at latitudes and I got the smoked drink at the Jubilee that was so fun , to try and it was a really great drink yeah it really took us out of our comfort zone and it was so nice to try something new because we've been on the same it for so long it was so nice to have , some different options so that's a really nice thing and then leads into my final Pro is that , we get to meet new people so when you're standing at the bar and you're waiting for a drink we met , so many people on this Carnival Cruise yeah like a lot we've made a lot of friends yeah it was . awesome it was great it's not to say that you can't make friends when you're not drinking but . let's be honest when you're 15 drinks in you're gonna be a little more social and you're gonna just talk to people and you'll make a lot of friends on the cruise it just adds to the overall enjoyment of the experience going around and trying different venues meeting people new drinks . no stress yeah and it kind of makes you stay it makes us at least stay up a little later and try , to get to all the events and try to see all the events change into what they change into at night so there's different parties dancing yeah a little more fun yeah like they had that Mega deck party . at night that was a lot of fun unfortunately we missed the the Lido deck sale because it poured , down rain on us but uh maybe on our next one in the Jubilee okay now we're gonna move into some , cons yeah so some of the cons are and as you I mentioned earlier we are we're Carnival noobs at . this time it was our first Carnival Cruise so I was really surprised by this and I'm happy to , share with you is that actually when you're in U.S Sports you pay taxes on the drinks even when you already bought the drink package now it's not like that with royal and that's who normally who we cruise with I don't know if they kind of absorb the cost or however it works but if you buy like let's just say there's a 10 tax make uh math easy if you buy a 10 drink the ten dollars will be . covered by the drink package but then you'll have to pay one dollar and of course okay one dollar , what's the big deal but if you buy 15 drinks between two people that's thirty dollars and a day , so that you're in U.S Port not that this really changed our the amount that we drank it's just .

an added cost to think about how many US ports do you have in the itinerary obviously as soon as you get out of the U.S port and you're in open Waters you're no longer paying this tax so really . it's not that big of a deal you're probably not going to drink 15 drinks while you're in the , port but definitely something to think about and definitely a con next con is something we're . going to experience in the Jubilee in February is it actually leaves out of Galveston and apparently you can't use the drink package on day one out of New York or Texas what now they say this is for state laws but again with royal I believe that they do this so I'm not sure we'll have to do some additional research to make sure that they uh what the deal is there but with Carnival your drink . package starts on day two at six a.m now you don't pay for day one so you're not getting ripped off , you're they're not they're not trying to trick you or anything but sometimes consider and it starts , on day two another con and this is just kind of you know throughout all Cruise Lines okay it's , just a generic con is that if one person in The State Room gets a drink package the other person has to get it so typically I drink more than Kayla so it's usually a little more worth it for me but if I want it she has to get it as well the good news with that is you can kind of . low-key share drinks like you get 30 between the two of you if that makes sense now this is probably like taboo but you know just be responsible don't go too crazy but because . they can take away your drink package yeah and I'm confident that everyone shares between . sometimes Kayla takes my card or sometimes she doesn't she gets like two drinks or it gets kind , of mixed match all over the place and uh you can ask the bartenders like your current tally of . how many drinks you have one other thing to thought of too is that you can only order a drink . every five minutes so they actually keep tabs on your card so if you're trying to order a drink and then order another drink right after they have a thing that says like you . have this many more minutes until your next drink so just keep that in mind as well yeah we actually found that the lines were pretty long too so getting a drink and a second drink , within five minutes is actually probably not gonna happen for you but yeah I found the coffee . line was always really long that's why we went to bar 820 and then like the Lido deck Vibe is like incredible but everyone's at the bar so one other thing that I might just add for kind . of a con is so when we cruise on royal royal has private islands that you can use your drink package on that's right um you actually can't use your cheers drink package on the private islands owned which I think are Princess K and half moon k that sounds right so just keep in mind that if , you're someone who cruises with royal like we are we're used to being able to use our drink packages . on those private islands um but with Carnival you can't so just keep in mind that you're not . going to count those days as sea days like you would on other ships you're going to treat it as , a Porte because you're going to be paying for your drinks so now the big question is it worth it so this is really kind of just an individual answer we'll give you our you know answer but it really . just depends on how many drinks you're planning on having per day I do think it has an impact like just think about what kind of cruise you're having and you know what's the vibe you're going . for like if you're going with a group of friends oh my god get the drink pack it's gonna be worth it you're gonna have an amazing time if you're just you know husband and wife going for a low-key , getaway you're not looking to spend too much well then just don't get it and just pay as you go no , big deal however we think that personally that it's pretty easy to hit that six day drinks . per day and if you can swing it it will make your cruise a better experience in our opinion . we had more more fun going to venues doing the events trying new drinks like that was like a big part of the fun which was the drink portion of it and going to the different bars and you know they've had live music and it's just you know more fun not to say that you have to it's just uh you know our opinion yes yeah so kind of think about yourself your budget your yeah , your budget and just kind of what kind of cruise you're looking for and uh hopefully you make a decision that improves your cruising experience and then you can also use our drink calculator and our average drink cost to kind of figure out how much do I do I have I have that little savings account , so when I get off and I have that bill you have that money saved up just pay it right off so if you wanted to see our experience on the Carnival celebration be sure to check out our cruise Vlog .
