(light music) (light music) - One of the things I love most about practicing at the VA is that it's super, clear what the mission is, and the mission is to. take the best care you can of the veteran that's in front of you, and having veterans be part of the workforce just makes that easier. - This is the culture. Military veteran culture is just that. Like any other culture, it has its own history and traditions and language and rituals. and songs and so forth, and unique experiences that, are impactful on one's life. And even though it's been 50, 60 years since a veteran may have served, that's still part of their fabric. - It's something that you live each day. You know, we advocate for our veterans, but we also advocate. for our nurses as well. (light music) - Who are you here for? Why are you here? We always ask those questions. You know, life happens, right? But at the end of the day, when you work here, why are you here? And it's for the veterans. (light music) - One of the best comments, that I've ever heard is that female veterans feel welcome here. They feel that their care, is very focalized to them. They get individualized care and that now we're. becoming the front runner as opposed to going to the community. They'd rather come to the VA. (light music) - The social workers at the VA can give you.

so much information. I don't qualify for inpatient,. inpatient art therapy, but there is art therapy outside of the VA and the social worker can, give me that information. The VA has a great program where if a female veteran doesn't feel comfortable going by herself to the VA,. there's a number she can call and they will have assistant veteran sit with her and go to. an appointment with her. (light music) - Veterans that come. here understand this is a military/VA facility, and. they do enjoy that culture of structure that they have here. I really do think Dr. Kay has been, she's been great for me, and I'm sure she's the same. way with all their patients. She's actually texted me or you messaged me on a Sunday saying, "Hey, I got your Friday message, and this is what you need to do." This is on a Sunday afternoon. That's pretty impressive to me. (light music) (light music) - So far I've been in the Red Clinic, PT, neuro, outpatient neuro. They have all been a part of my journey to where I am today. I continue to seek my healthcare here because I know this is the best place for me to be. (light music) - What we do at the VA is.

really provide opportunities for veterans to take the steps in their life that make sense to them, that helps improve the, quality of their life. - The VA offers a very unique experience in the United States and that. we can basically take care of the patients no matter what they need. We offer acute care. services, inpatient services, surgical services, but then after that if they need mental health services, if they need rehabilitation, nursing home, the VA is basically all-inclusive in that aspect, and that's. what's really appealing to me about working at the VA. (light music) - I've, heard over and over again from veterans that when. they set foot on this campus they feel more relaxed. They feel like people here, even though they may not know the veteran in front of them or in back of them, they know that they're a veteran, and that gives them a sense, of comfort and security and the sacredness of this ground when we have the Wood National Cemetery with almost 40,000 veterans and their spouses buried there brings such a gravitas to this.
