Chris Sutton believes Nottingham Forest and their manager Steve Cooper will be ‘absolutely killed’ if the club sell star man Brennan Johnson to Tottenham.

Spurs are preparing to launch a £50million bid for the Wales international, 22, who would prefer to sign for the north London club over other suitors Chelsea and West Ham.

Forest have already rejected a number of offers up to £35m from Brentford for Johnson and will likely see their resolve tested ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

But Mail Sport columist and former Premier League striker Sutton fears Forest could do themselves more harm than good by taking the cash now for a player who supplied 10 goals and three assists last season.

‘Well, it’s going to absolutely kill Nottingham Forest and Steve Cooper,’ Sutton told Mail Sport’s It’s All Coming Up podcast.

Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson is attracting serious interest from Tottenham

The Wales international forward is valued at £50m by Forest and Spurs are preparing a bid

Your browser does not support iframes.

‘He can’t be in a hurry to get rid of Brennan Johnson, however much money Nottingham Forest get.
