Wrexham dropped two points in their League Two clash with Barrow on Saturday – even after Ben Foster’s departure.

The Red Dragons took the lead away at Holker Street 12 minutes into the affair. Elliott Lee scored his fifth goal of the season from the penalty spot after Ollie Palmer was brought down in the box.

Barrow equalised just after half-time with Emile Acquah curling one into the top-right corner in the 52nd minute. It took Wrexham’s record for the season to a dismal three draws, one defeat and a win – which came in a 4-2 victory over Walsall.

There was no clean sheet for Mark Howard in his first league start of the season either, having just regained his spot as Wrexham’s No.1 goalkeeper after Foster announced his retirement last week.

The former Watford man, 40, came under fire from supporters after conceding five goals against Swindon Town. Foster had come out of retirement to play for Wrexham, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the EFL at the end of last season.

But his start to life in League Two was far from rosy as he failed to manage a clean sheet in any of his four outings. And he candidly spoke about the reason behind his decision to walk away, with Hollywood owner Ryan Reynoldsresponding with his own gushing tribute.

Foster said on Instagram: "Hello Wrexham fans, It's Ben Foster here. I just want you to know that I've decided to retire from professional football… yeah, I know, again.

“I think the time is right, I feel sometimes you've got to be brutally honest with yourself, and just admit you can't do what you used to do! It's a shame, but being 40-years-old, it's expected as well."

Wrexham now sit 16th in the table. Manager Phil Parkinson did not appear worried after the game, however, believing his side would have claimed all three points if they had been more clinical in front of goal.

Parkinson said post-match: "I thought it was a good overall performance. First half, the performance probably warranted coming in two or three nil up, we were in control and created some great chances. We probably need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

"All in all, what we have asked the lads to do this week is readdress the balance of our game. I thought they did really well."
