The head coach of the Spanish Women’s football team Jorge Vilda has labelled the actions of the President of the Spanish Football Federation Luis Rubiales as ‘inappropriate and unacceptable’.

Rubiales, has refused to resign from his position after he kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips without consent during celebrations at the Women’s World Cup final.

In an extraordinary press conference on Friday, the 46-year-old claimed that he is the victim of ‘social murder’ and ‘false feminism’, with many of those in attendance – including Vilda – standing to applaud the speech.

FIFA have now suspended him, while 81 Spain players, including all 23 World Cup winners, have said they will not play for their country again until he is removed from his post.

On Saturday afternoon, they were supported by all 11 members of Vilda’s coaching staff, who all resigned in protest, stating that they were forced to attend the aforementioned press conference.

Curiously, Vilda did not join his team in resigning but has now broken his silence on the matter and did not hold back when criticising Rubiales.

‘I regret deeply that the victory of Spanish women’s football has been harmed by the inappropriate behaviour that our until now top leader, Luis Rubiales, has carried out and that he himself has recognised,’ a statement read.

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a webbrowser thatsupports HTML5video

‘There is no doubt that it is unacceptable and does not reflect at all the principles and values that I defend in my life, in sport in general and in football in particular.

‘I condemn without doubt any macho attitude, [which should be] far from an advanced and developed society.

‘A clearly undesirable climate has been generated, far from what should have been a great celebration of Spanish sport and women’s sport.

‘I reiterate my unwavering commitment to promoting a sport that is a model of equality and respect in our society.’

For more stories like this, check our sport page.

Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
