A loved-up Stefanos Tsitsipas made light work of his first round match at the US Open – crediting girlfriend Paula Badosa, who watched on from his box, with giving him a new perspective in life.

The two tennis stars have taken the ATP and WTA Tours by storm since going public with their relationship earlier this year at the French Open.

Badosa and Tsitsipas were the talk of Wimbledon, where they were due to play mixed doubles, only for injury to strike that from the order of play.

Now in New York Badosa, who has called time on the rest of her season due to injury, roared her boyfriend to victory

Badosa’s season is over due to injury but Tsitsipas, following his 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win, was quick to make the Spaniard the focus.

The Greek was quick to pay tribute to Badosa, who has ended her season early due to injury

‘Unfortunately [Paula] is struggling with an injury right now but I really wish her the best and I’m here by her side every single day so we can get back stronger,’ he said.

Tsitsipas has been oh so eager to discuss his relationship in the build up to the action at Flushing Meadows.

‘Love helps me understand that in life there isn’t only work and I can’t think about tennis 24/7, which is something I did in the past,’ Tsitsipas told SuperTennis TV earlier this week.

‘I’ve met someone who has helped me to appreciate most important values in every day life. She’s helped me to be a better person…’

In a separate interview with Esto he added: ‘Paula inspires me to be the best version of myself, she helps me a lot in a positive way, she is the kind of person who guides me.

‘There is no person who enters your life and makes you win everything suddenly. I don’t believe it.

‘It’s just that being with the right person means pushing each other to make the most of their personalities and potential.’

The pair hit the headlines at Wimbledon when Badosa revealed she had a sex dream about her boyfriend in a bizarre overshare during a press conference.

Badosa was seen on the big screen and fans were loving the couple being back in headlines

The tennis power couple dominated much of the headlines at Wimbledon this year

The pair have only been dating publicly for a few months but already have a joint Instagram account – @tsitsidosa

‘Yeah, well, I was injured in Australia. I watched his match, the final. Of course I had jet lag because I was in Spain. I decided to watch that match,’ she said.

‘Surprising, because I never dream about tennis players, but I dreamt about him that night, that we were both winning Australian Open. Then it was like we were having a very romantic moment, but I’m not going to explain.’

‘I’m just going to leave it there,’ she added laughing.

There was more laughter and smiles in the player box in New York, and she will hope she can be Tsitsipas’ guiding light as he aims to win his maiden Grand Slam title.
