David De Gea has taken to social media to show that he is keeping sharp in private training sessions, having been let go by Manchester United at the end of last season.

The Spanish stopper picked up the Premier League’s Golden Glove award in 2022-23 after a stellar season between the sticks for the Red Devils.

In total, De Gea kept an impressive 17 clean sheets in the English top-flight, but it was not enough to earn him a contract renewal, with the club declining to extend his stay by an optional 12 months.

Now a free agent, the 32-year-old has been keen to show himself capable of competing at the highest level still, having not yet been picked up by any club this summer.

There had been links with Bayern Munich, who are in need of a replacement in goal with Manuel Neuer only recently returning to training and Yann Sommer leaving for Inter Milan, but any deal now seems to be off.

In the video, De Gea can be seen running solo drills as he bids to keep sharp should any side come calling at the start of the new season.

As well as footwork drills and fitness work, the Spaniard takes part in high-catching work, close range stops, reflex saves, and long-range blocks.

De Gea closes the clip out with shots of him working on his footwork and distribution – one of the reasons he ultimately lost favour with Erik ten Hag, who prefers his goalkeepers to be comfortable in possession.

The 32-year-old was keen to show that he is willing to put in the work to earn himself a move before the end of the transfer window this Friday, September 1 at 11pm.

As well as Bayern Munich, De Gea had also been linked with Real Madrid, who lost Thibaut Courtois to an ACL injury on the eve of the new season, however Los Blancos instead looked to Kepa Arrizabalaga, on loan from Chelsea.

De Gea’s departure paved the way for the arrival of Andre Onana to United from Inter Milan, who has since taken on the No 1 spot in the side.

The Red Devils have since plenty of other business in goal, with Matej Kovar leaving for Bayer Leverkusen for £7.7million.

Additionally, Den Henderson – who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest – is set to join Crystal Palace in a £15m move, with Fenerbahce’s Altay Bayindir joining the Old Trafford club for £4.3m.

Man United moved to bring Andre Onana in as a replacement for their former Spanish No 1

Altay Bayindir is expected to sign for Manchester United in a £4.3m deal from Fenerbahce

He will replace Dean Henderson, who is set to join Crystal Palace for a fee of £15m
