A university student who was given £5,000 by Manchester City star Jack Grealish has died of cancer.

20-year-old Dylan Lamb was diagnosed with Precursor T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia earlier this year after going to the doctors complaining of back pain – thinking he'd simply pulled a muscle.

He passed away on Saturday evening surrounded by his family, and one of his friends paid tribute to him on social media shortly after, writing: "He went in his sleep with his family by his side, having said his goodbyes to all of his friends the day before and he was still full of laughs and jokes."

"I cannot put into words the love that us lads and Dylan's family have felt through this difficult time. We cannot thank everyone enough for the continued support and love.

"I hope we have done you proud bro and I hope you know that we will always love you."

A GoFundMe page was set up in an attempt to raise money for Dylan, who supported Birmingham City, to travel to the US for potentially life-saving treatment.

And his friends at Liverpool University helped raise over £170,000 by taking on the Three Peaks Challenge.

It was at this point that Grealish caught wind of the situation and generously donated £5,000 to the cause. The 27-year-old later shared a link to the page on Instagram, along with a broken heart emoji, a crying face emoji and the caption: "Please have a read."

Discussing Dylan's cancer battle, his girlfriend Phoebe Cole said: "It got progressively worse, he lost his appetite and was being sick.
