{"id":92874,"date":"2023-09-12T15:49:13","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T15:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stopsmokingway.com\/?p=92874"},"modified":"2023-09-12T15:49:13","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T15:49:13","slug":"cole-palmer-reflects-on-huge-decision-to-leave-man-city-and-join-chelsea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stopsmokingway.com\/soccer\/cole-palmer-reflects-on-huge-decision-to-leave-man-city-and-join-chelsea\/","title":{"rendered":"Cole Palmer reflects on &#039;huge decision&#039; to leave Man City and join Chelsea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/GettyImages-1663082489.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Cole Palmer says he had only ever left Manchester on holidays or away games before signing for Chelsea, as he reflects on the \u2018huge decision\u2019 to leave Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks with the Premier League champions and looked set to have a breakout season in their first team.<\/p>\n<p>After the departure of Riyad Mahrez, Palmer scored in both the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup, making a good case for a more regular place in Pep Guardiola\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>However, after making just 19 Premier League appearances for his boyhood club he has moved to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues splashing out an initial \u00a340m on his services and handing him a seven-year contract.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/themes\/metro-parent\/img\/fallback.png\"><\/p>\n<p>Palmer made his debut in the Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest and hopes to get plenty more chances to impress Mauricio Pochettino.<\/p>\n<p>There is no real guarantee that he will get more game time at Chelsea than he would have at Manchester City, but that is what he is hoping for and that the big move to west London was all worthwhile.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m not saying I shied away from the competition (for places at City) because I\u2019ve never done that,\u2019 Palmer said. \u2018I\u2019d been there (around the first team) for a few years and wanted more of an opportunity to play \u2013 in my position and to have more of an impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was a huge decision. When I left the training ground on the Thursday I knew I was going to London the next day. It all just hit me, sat in the car and going to drive out. I was just thinking, \u201cyou\u2019ve been here 15 years\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I don\u2019t know any different. I\u2019ve never been on loan. I\u2019ve never moved out of Manchester. The only time I\u2019ve ever been outside of Manchester is on holiday or away games. Going there does feel weird, but there is no time to waste.
