England and Scotland supporters reportedly clashed in Hampden Park on Tuesday night, with bottles thrown into the away section in the stadium. Gareth Southgate’s side secured bragging rights over their long-standing rivals with a 3-1 win in a performance that highlighted why many feel that the Three Lions should be winning international trophies.

According to the Daily Mail, bottles were thrown into the England away end during the match from Scotland supporters sitting in the stands above. It is claimed that one supporter was struck in the head by one of the objects dropped from a height and required medical treatment.

Supporters have clashed with one another when the two nations have met previously due to the long-standing rivalry between the countries, though significant questions will be raised about the conduct of the Scotland supporters during the ‘friendly’.

England supporters will feel that they had the last laugh on the night though, with their side never truly having to come out of cruise control to secure the win over Steve Clarke’s side. Manchester City maestro Phil Foden opened the scoring for the Three Lions in the 33rd minute with a moment of brilliance to divert Kyle Walker’s fierce wayward strike into the back of the net from close range.

The new Real Madrid star pounced on a sloppy touch from Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson inside his box to smash past Angus Gunn and give England breathing space heading into the half-time break.

Harry Maguire then came off of the bench to replace Marc Guehi, but he was unable to silence his critics as he diverted a cross past Aaron Ramsdale and into the back of his own net in the 67th minute. Scotland attempted to use the momentum to equalise, though their hopes of a memorable draw were crushed by Harry Kane in the 81st minute when the Bayern Munich striker guided his shot into the far corner after a sensational dribble by Bellingham.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. We wanted to control the crowd by using the ball well and showing composure and I thought that we did that really well.

“I thought that we were a threat, we had runners in behind and the players, from one to 11 and the subs that came on, had one of those nights where they all did well.”
