Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew has tipped Conor Benn’s speed and explosiveness to give him the edge should he fight Chris Eubank Jr.

Eubank Jr is coming off the back of a dramatic tenth round stoppage win over bitter rival Liam Smith in Manchester.

The 33-year-old was previously mean to fight Benn but the bout was halted with just days to go due to news of Benn failing a drug test.

However Bellew believes it would be Benn who would get the better of Eubank Jr if the two British fighters take eachother on.

Speaking on Carl Froch’s podcast, Froch on Fighting, Bellew said: ‘Too quick, too explosive, I just think he beats him.

‘I don’t know how it’ll go, I just need to see Conor back first to see what the year’s took out of him, but I still favour Conor.

‘Explosive, powerful, quick- Conor Benn’s one of them, you’re going to have to put him to sleep.

‘He’s going out on his shield.’

Eubank Jr has recently revealed he would be interested in a fight with Conor Benn to continue the rivalry fought between their fathers in the nineties, but told Sky Sports it would have to happen on his terms.

Meanwhile, Benn had been cleared to fight following the verdict of the UK Anti-Doping’s (UKAD) investigation into his failed drug tests last year.

However, multiple sources told Mail Sport that both UK Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control are going to contest the decision of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel.

Benn has continously maintained his innocence after traces of clomiphene were found in his samples, and it remains to be seen if he can fight in the UK again.
