Kostas Tsimikas has signed a new long-term contract which will keep him at Liverpool until 2027.

It was reported earlier this month that the Greek left-back had agreed to pen fresh terms with the Reds, much to the delight of Jurgen Klopp.

Though the 27-year-old is firmly behind Andy Robertson in the pecking order, he remains a valued member of Klopp’s squad and looks to be set for a bigger role this season due to their involvement in the Europa League.

Tsimikas played the full 90 at LASK last Thursday as Liverpool kicked-off their European campaign with a 3-1 win, but he has managed just four minutes in the Premier League so far.

‘I feel very glad to be here to extend my contract. I feel like all the sacrifices I did and other things, the work I put in, [that] everything pays off,’ the defender told Liverpoolfc.com.

‘But this keeps me fully motivated for the rest. As I’ve said in many, many interviews, this team has many, many things to achieve all together and I wanted to be from the first minute a part of it.’

Signed from Olympiacos for just under £12million back in 2020, Tsimikas has made 63 appearances for Liverpool so far, though only 35 of them have come in the Premier League.

The ‘Greek Scouser’ won the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, scoring the winning penalty in the shootout victory in the former.

Though Liverpool’s team has changed a lot over the past year, they seem to be handling the transition well, with the side undefeated after six league matches and only two points behind leaders Manchester City.

And Tsimikas is sure he and his teammates can bring more silverware back to Anfield this season, adding: ‘More success, more work and more trophies.

‘For me it is the most important thing, to win trophies, to be committed in every situation, to be part of all of this.

‘I think this team has very big potential to win more trophies and we will go for it. Everybody, I think, is 100 per cent there [and] focused for the next games and everybody is ready to achieve big things in the future.’

Up next for Tsimikas and the Reds is a tricky League Cup clash against Championship leaders Leicester City on Wednesday night.
