Manchester City were beaten for the first time this season after suffering a shock defeat away to Wolves, courtesy of Hwang Hee-chan … or as Pep Guardiola knows him: "The Korean guy".

The City boss awkwardly forgot Hwang's name during his pre-match press conference on Friday, but he probably won't be able to get it out of his head now after the 27-year-old netted Wolves' winner in a 2-1 win at Molineux. He told reporters: "When you see the quality individually that they have, especially up front with [Pedro] Neto, with [Matheus] Cunha with err [pauses] the Korean guy".

Unsurprisingly, fans on social media let him have it after the game, with one person writing on X (formerly Twitter): "Pep won’t forget his name now." Another said: "Hwang clearly took this personally."

"Karma blew Hwang Hee-chan a kiss today," a third wrote, while a fourth joked: "Pep wasn't lying, they really do have quality up front." Even Wolves' X admin got in on the act, uploading a photo of Hwang after his goal along with the caption: "THAT KOREAN GUY".

The goal was Hwang's fourth of the campaign, meaning that he's scored more than every City player whose name isn't Erling Haaland this season. Wolves took an early lead in the game via a Ruben Dias own goal, but City hit back on the hour-mark through Julian Alvarez.

Just eight minutes later, Hwang put the hosts back in front by smashing home from close-range following a goal-mouth scramble, and Wolves held on for a much-needed victory, one that moves them up to 13th in the table. City, meanwhile, are still top but now have Arsenal breathing down their necks just a point behind following their 4-0 win at Bournemouth.

Hwang joined Wolves from RB Leipzig in 2021, initially on loan before signing permanently for the Midlands club in 2022. He's scored 13 goals in 70 matches in that time and is just two goals away from his best-ever scoring season in a Wolves shirt.
