Hamilton made a good start and recklessly pressed his case on the outside of the right-hander. He clipped Russell, who had nowhere to go.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Are you OK, mate?\u2019 Hamilton was asked. \u2018I was taken out by my own team-mate.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/08\/18\/76307615-12608055-image-a-70_1696786947287.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Lewis Hamilton collided with George Russell on the opening corner of the Qatar Grand Prix\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/08\/18\/76307617-12608055-image-a-72_1696786961483.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Both cars went into the gravel as Hamilton&#8217;s right tyre burst during the collision with Russell\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Russell said: \u2018That\u2019s the second race in a row,\u2019 referring to a fierce battle between the pair in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions are now boiling at Mercedes, and team principal Toto Wolff is \u2013 unbelievably \u2013 absent after ill-timed surgery on his knee.<\/p>\n<p>Russell then said: \u2018Sorry guys. I wasn\u2019t even looking. He came from nowhere.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He later added: \u2018I have just watched the replays on the TV screens,. I couldn\u2019t do anything. Completely sandwiched. Come on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/08\/18\/76307605-12608055-image-a-71_1696786956282.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Hamilton can only look on after the incident as tensions were raised further at Mercedes\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/08\/19\/76309673-12608055-image-a-31_1696791503149.jpg\" height=\"166\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Hamilton accepted full responsibility for the crash in a post on X after the race had ended\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Russell went into the pits but carried on.<\/p>\n<p>Following the race, Hamilton took to social media to take full responsibility for the incident, and apologised to his Mercedes team-mate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton said on X: &#8216;I\u2019ve watched the replay and it was 100% my fault and I take full responsibility.
