Liverpool may be without Andy Robertson for a few months in a worst-case scenario with Jurgen Klopp left sweating on the fitness of his first-choice left-back. Robertson was forced off the field in Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain after dislocating his shoulder.

Liverpool are yet to find out the true extent of the injury after Robertson returned to the club earlier this week to undergo further tests. They’re waiting on scan results, but the Times have revealed the worst-case scenario would see Robertson ruled out for up to four months.

The long recovery period would only be needed if Robertson went under the knife for surgery on his shoulder. If surgery is required then Klopp will have to rely on Kostas Tsimikas heading into a busy period of the season.

The Greece international has been at Anfield for three years now but he’s largely played a bit-part role in Klopp’s squad. Robertson has been Liverpool’s first-choice left-back ever since he joined the club from Hull in 2017.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has also been left in the dark on Robertson’s injury status after the full-back returned to Merseyside. “As always with injured players, we send them back to their club; Andy’s gone back to Liverpool,” he said.

“Liverpool will deal with his injury. Obviously it’s a shoulder issue and Liverpool will deal with it. If he’s fit for next month, it’s great. If he’s not fit for next month then hopefully he’ll be fit as soon as possible for his club.”

They were assured of qualification for the 2024 European Championships after Norway failed to beat Spain at the weekend.

It means Scotland and Spain will qualify from Group A with two games to spare. But Robertson will want to be back fit for a busy run for Liverpool who return to action this weekend against Everton.

Klopp’s side play seven times over the next three weeks before the next international break.
