Ange Postecoglou is there to support Richarlison

Tottenham could be set to become the latest Premier League side to miss out on one of their top targets to the riches of Saudi Arabia after Brighton loanee Ansu Fati was linked with a move. Reports suggest the on-loan Barcelona forward has emerged as a possible transfer target for ultra-ambitious Saudi Pro League clubs, which could leave Spurs frustrated in their attempts to sign him next summer.

The 20-year-old has bagged two goals in five substitute appearances for the Seagulls since arriving on a season-long loan deal from the La Liga giants and has impressed for Roberto De Zerbi’s side in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.

However, Brighton do not have a purchase option included in their loan deal Barca, leaving Fati with a decision to make next summer. There is likely to be significant interest in the youngster, with Spurs just one of several clubs chasing the Spain international.

Ange Postecoglou is believed to be a big fan of the winger after trying to sign him in the summer. The Australian boss may have been snubbed in favour of Brighton in August but he may attempt to capture Fati again at the end of his loan, although the north London outfit could soon find themselves blown out of the water.

According to Catalan publication Sport, Saudi chiefs have already approached the player’s entourage to test the water in terms of a potential switch. It is claimed informal talks have been held on ‘several’ occasions, with his representatives opening the door to a lucrative transfer in 2024.

Saudi negotiators have made it clear they want to recruit the best footballers in the world after landing Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema. Their attempts to bring in Kylian Mbappe and Luka Modric failed despite submitting huge financial offers to the pair, and Fati could be the next to land a massive pay hike.

But it is still early days and it is reported Fati doesn’t see the move as a realistic prospect at this stage in his career, which could give Spurs hope of agreeing a deal.
