Manchester United reportedly have concerns in the dressing room over the intensity of Erik ten Hag’s training sessions. It is thought at the club that they are contributing to both fatigue and injuries among the squad this season.

United have been littered with injury problems so far this term. Ten Hag has not been able to call upon a full-strength squad for any of the matches so far.

Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez are two stars to have both had long-term problems, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia are both currently unavailable. Raphael Varane has been in and out of the side due to his own fitness issues, while Casemiro has not been available since the international break.

United reached the final of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season and had a long pre-season schedule. Some senior stars have already played 20 times this term for club and country.

And ESPN claims there is a feeling at the club that their fitness levels are not being helped by Ten Hag’s training sessions. It is reported that the sessions are intense and do not allow players enough time to recover between matches.

United are competing in the Champions League this season after finishing third in the Premier League in Ten Hag’s first year in charge. The Dutchman is therefore keen to play as strong a team as possible both domestically and in Europe.

But it may have been to the detriment of the fitness of his squad. United legend Roy Keane claimed following the 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday that his former club looked way below the physical levels of their opponents.

While analysing the second half, Keane said on Sky Sports: “United are gone there. Look at (Christian) Eriksen.
