{"id":95410,"date":"2023-11-01T08:25:17","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T08:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stopsmokingway.com\/?p=95410"},"modified":"2023-11-01T08:25:17","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T08:25:17","slug":"pfa-chief-maheta-molango-set-for-30-percent-pay-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stopsmokingway.com\/soccer\/pfa-chief-maheta-molango-set-for-30-percent-pay-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"PFA chief Maheta Molango set for 30 percent pay rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Footballers&#8217; union the PFA hand their chief exec Maheta Molango a 30% pay rise to rocket his salary to \u00a3650,000 &#8211; and pin it on the cost of living crisis<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maheta Molango\u2019s annual salary will rise from \u00a3500,000 to \u00a3650,000\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Molango replaced Gordon Taylor as PFA CEO in 2021\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Professional Footballers\u2019 Association (PFA) has reportedly cited the cost of living crisis as the motivating factor behind its decision to hand its chief executive a 30 percent salary increase.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Times, Maheta Molango\u2019s annual salary will rise from \u00a3500,000 to \u00a3650,000 following his first pay review in two years.<\/p>\n<p>The increase has been motivated by Britain&#8217;s ongoing economic crisis, which has seen inflation and the cost of goods and services skyrocket.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the most recent data from the Office for National Statistics, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 6.7 percent in the 12 months to September 2023.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison, it reached a peaked of 11.1 percent in October last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/07\/77257957-0-image-a-1_1698824086291.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>PFA chief executive Maheta Molango is set for a 30 percent salary increase<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Molango is the highest-paid union boss in Britain and his salary was set at \u00a3500,000 when he replaced Gordon Taylor as PFA boss two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>His predecessor&#8217;s salary exceeded \u00a32million a year and a governance review recommended a significant overhaul of the way the PFA CEO&#8217;s salary is set.<\/p>\n<p>A remuneration committee composed of the PFA\u2019s operational board and players\u2019 board discusses a figure, which is then signed off by the two boards.<\/p>\n<p>Under Taylor&#8217;s stewardship, meanwhile, salary decisions were taken by the business advisory committee of the then PFA charitable trust.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Taylor was both the PFA CEO and a trustee of the charity. Molango&#8217;s predecessor was appointed PFA chairman in 1978, before taking over as CEO three years later.<\/p>\n<p>Molango played six times for Brighton and had loan spells with Oldham Athletic and Lincoln City between 2004 and 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Switzerland, he studied law in Madrid, and has practiced in Spain and in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his appointment at the PFA, he was chief executive of Spanish outfit Real Mallorca.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/07\/77257961-0-image-a-2_1698824092419.jpg\" height=\"360\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Molango replaced Gordon Taylor, who stepped down in 2021 after 40 years as PFA CEO<\/p>\n<p>Following two promotions with Mallorca, Molango was sacked with the team bottom of La Liga in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks later, he was reported in Spain to have been questioned as part of a money-laundering investigation into Albanian agent Fali Ramadani, who has been charged with a number of offences.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Molango did not face any charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The PFA&#8217;s move to appoint the 41-year-old came under scrutiny\u00a0amid major concerns about the recruitment process.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/01\/07\/77257959-0-image-a-3_1698824101094.jpg\" height=\"444\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The PFA&#8217;s move to appoint the 41-year-old came under scrutiny amid major concerns about the recruitment process<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, <span>Mail Sport<\/span> reported\u00a0PFA staff received &#8216;negative endorsements&#8217;
