Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez believes the club will win the Premier League in the years to come as he backed Todd Boehly’s long-term vision for the club. The £107million signing has been a stellar addition to the squad in a troubling period for the six-time champions after Boehly worked tirelessly to secure his signing from Benfica in the January transfer window, and Fernandez has confidently predicted they will be contenders to dominate the English top-flight in the future.

The Blues have not won a league title since the 2016-17 season when Antonio Conte guided them to a stunning triumph in his first season in England, having finished 10th the previous campaign.

They did win the Champions League for a second time in 2020-21 under Thomas Tuchel, but things have gone south since Boehly took charge of the club with a £2.5billion takeover in May 2022. Despite spending over £600m in the two transfer windows, Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League with four different coaches taking up the manager’s seat in the dugout in a turbulent campaign.

Fernandez was one of only a few players to emerge from that shambolic period with any praise, with the 22-year-old featuring in all but one of their games since his big-money transfer.

And the World Cup winner is adamant their time will come when their players reach their peak.

“I think we are going to be one of the best teams in the Premier League,” Fernandez said on Sky Sports’ Big Interview. “I don’t know when, not now but I think that through hard work we will do it, we will achieve it.”

Moises Caicedo, who was also present for the interview, echoed his team-mate’s comments and warned those who underestimate Chelsea will eventually change their minds: “I agree 100 per cent… as Enzo said, it will take time and those who don’t believe in us will end up doing so.”
