Rasmus Hojlund’s younger brother, Emil, scored against Manchester United on Wednesday just hours before Erik ten Hag’s side take on FC Copenhagen in Denmark.

Emil, 18, is twinned to his brother Oscar, with both still playing for Copenhagen whereas the eldest sibling, Rasmus, left two-years ago where he joined Atalanta before moving to Old Trafford in the summer.

United need a win in Denmark on Tuesday night to keep their Champions League ambitions on-track, but their academy team played Copenhagen in an Under 19 match before the two first-teams face off.

Rasmus will be hoping to match his younger brother’s goalscoring feat when he walks out at the home of his former club after Emil scored a crucial goal for Copenhagen earlier in the day.

Emil scored from the penalty spot after United had taken a two-goal lead against Copenhagen courtesy of goals from Ethan Williams and Ethan Wheatley.

A final strike from Amin Chiakha rescued a stoppage time 2-2 draw for the Danish side, but United supporters are hoping their senior squad can go one better later tonight.

Hojlund has notched just three goals since making his £72m switch to Man United with each strike coming in the Champions League, but has so far failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League.

His recent performances have come under criticism, but United boss Ten Hag has backed the 20-year-old to start scoring more frequently.

‘He has scored three goals in the Champions League already, which is very good for an integration period.

‘I think as a team we can be better in possession so we can create more and better chances and that will also give our offensive players more opportunities to score goals.

‘What we have to work on is a stable starting XI or at least 12 or 13 players and then the routines will be better and we will create better chances.

‘But as I said, social-wise, I think he has integrated very good in the team and in the club.

‘From a football perspective, he has already scored three goals in the Champions League which is a very good performance and from here on he has to take it on and improve.

‘That is the character of Rasmus. He wants to improve every day so it is lovely to work with him, with such characters.’
