Tottenham are reportedly exploring the possibility of re-signing Marcus Edwards this summer. The winger left the club in 2019 in favour of heading to Portugal, though a return is said to be firmly on the cards as Ange Postecoglou looks to contend with mounting injury problems in North London.

Spurs have made a sensational start to the season, sitting in second place in the Premier League after winning eight of their opening 11 matches. Postecoglou’s side lost their unbeaten record on Monday night when losing 4-1 to Chelsea, though they emerged from the clash with their heads held high after finishing the match with nine men.

Tottenham have been reinvented by their new manager and the prospect of challenging for the title is not unreasonable as it stands. The additions of Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario have improved the squad markedly, with the team thriving from the attacking brand of football being implemented by Postecoglou.

However, injury problems are mounting in north London and Spurs are keen to ensure that their growing list of absentees does not derail their season. Therefore, according to Portuguese news outlet Correio de Manha, Tottenham have registered an interest in signing Edwards from Sporting.

The 24-year-old has shone since leaving England, scoring two and assisting two in nine Liga Portugal appearances so far this season. Edwards can play on either wing and has previously been deployed as a No 10, meaning that he can provide cover in numerous positions for Postecoglou.

The forward has a release clause of £52million, though Tottenham are able to strike a deal for a fee of approximately £34m as they wrote into his contract that they would be able to re-sign Edwards for 65 per cent of his asking price.
