Alejandro Garnacho took aim at Copenhagen fans before Manchester United slipped to a damaging late defeat in the Champions League.

The 19-year-old Argentina international was handed a start by Erik ten Hag in United's fourth group game, with three points vital following earlier defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray. Despite storming into an early lead thanks to a Rasmus Hojlund brace, Marcus Rashford's red cost them.

Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Gonclaves levelled things up before Garnacho shushed home fans after Bruno Fernandes' penalty – with Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji then making the visitors pay. Attention then went back to the shushing of the home support in Denmark's capital, which of course had aged terribly.

Garnacho then looked like the most disappointed player one the pitch as United were left at the bottom of Group A needing a miracle to progress after one win in four.

He was consoled by the coaching team and his playing colleagues as he sat on the turf, but might well have learned a valuable lesson about gloating too early.

Ten Hag picked out Rashford's red card as the turning point in the game with United looking good for qualification during the moments that they led.

He said on TNT Sports: "I think first we played very good until the red card. The red card changed everything. Then it becomes a different game. We concede two goals that shouldn't count. It is disappointing.

"Not only tonight. We have to deal with many decisions against us in other games. That's how it is. But the season is long. At one point it will turn in our favour.

"It is harsh decision. He was going for the ball. The review was over, then he went up to the screen. I think the referee was not sure.

"After half-time it was better but the two goals should not count. The first is offside, there is a player in front of Onana. The second, what can you do about that?

"I saw lots of positives, but in the end we lose some focus. It's hard when you play so long with 10 men.

"That was the best 20 minutes I saw from my side. Also with 10 we were still controlling the game. It's very disappointing. We fought so hard, played so good. Still we don't have one point."
