Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has insisted that he feels ‘fine’ despite suffering an injury scare during South Korea’s win over Singapore. The 31-year-old scored his side’s third goal in a comfortable 5-0 victory but later needed treatment after picking up a nasty knock to his knee in the second half.

Son was attended to by physios on the pitch, with the apparent injury raising questions over his fitness, although he eventually managed to play out the rest of the match. He was quick to downplay the severity of the issue after the final whistle by insisting that although he felt sore, he was not carrying an injury and does not expect to miss any matches.

“We are making a team for the World Cup, I can’t give up a game just because I feel pain,” said Son. “If I can’t run anymore, then I can’t do anything about it but when I can run, I have to give 100 per cent for the team.

“I am fine now. I don’t like to lie down [on the pitch] in the winter. At that moment, I couldn’t feel anything on my foot. I’m fine, no injury. I am not the only one hurting out there. Everyone plays with some bumps and bruises.”

It seems as though Son will be fine to play for Tottenham after the international break if his post-match assessment proves to be accurate. His availability will come as a major boost to the injury-hit north Londoners, who are already missing the likes of Richarlison, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven.

Son was previously forced to play through a groin injury in September and October but managed to start every Premier League game for Tottenham during that period. He was singled out for praise by Ange Postecoglou after scoring the opening goal in their win over Liverpool, with the Spurs boss hailing his steely determination and impressive work ethic.
