Tottenham could reportedly allow Alejo Veliz to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window, despite only acquiring his services over the summer. The 20-year-old has made just three appearances since making the move to the Premier League, and a short-term exit is now firmly on the cards.

Spurs have made a strong start to the season under Ange Postecoglou, winning eight of their opening 12 matches to assert themselves as, at least, outsiders in the title race. Tottenham’s new, attacking system has put an emphasis on those in the final third, and several stars have stepped up.

Summer signing James Maddison and newly-appointed club captain Heung-Min Son are both shining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and have been irreplaceable for Postecoglou. Brennan Johnson and Richarlison have also impressed at times, making it increasingly tricky for fresh faces to break into the Spurs team.

As such, Veliz has played a total of 10 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, entering the fray as a late substitute on three occasions. The ex-Rosario Central’s lack of opportunities has not gone unnoticed though, with Serie A side Bologna emerging as a potential loan destination for the forward.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Italian outfit are desperate to sign a striker in the January transfer window and have shortlisted Veliz as their ‘top target’. The higher powers at Bologna feel that the youngster fits the mould of what manager Thiago Motta demands from his No 9 and he is ‘favoured’ over more attainable alternatives.

Tottenham have not yet ruled whether they will allow Veliz to leave the club on loan in January, though their recent injury crisis does complicate matters. However, the player is said to be very keen to join Bologna and is ‘sad’ about his current situation and lack of opportunities.
