William Saliba hilariously mistook a forgotten Arsenal player for Everton manager Sean Dyche.

The Arsenal centre-back has become one of the outstanding defenders in world football with his performances over the last two seasons under Mikel Arteta. But despite already being a fan favourite in north London, the 22-year-old’s knowledge of former Gunners players could do with some work.

That was evident as the Frenchman was tested by NBC Sports in a game where he had to name ex-Gunners stars. Saliba failed to name each of Denilson, Manuel Almunia and Eduardo before sending social media into a meltdown.

Having been shown a picture of former Switzerland central defender Philippe Senderos, the youngster sheepishly asked: “It’s the coach of Everton?” He was told the correct answer and gave a chuckle as fans online were left in tears of laughter.

Aside from their bald heads, very few people would ever have compared the stoic, ginger-bearded former Burnley boss to Senderos previously. But Saliba can be forgiven for not being familiar with the defender, who played for the Gunners between 2003 and 2010.

Mainly a squad player, Senderos lifted the FA Cup and Community Shield with Arsenal before going on to play for a whole host of teams. He featured for AC Milan, Everton (ironically), Fulham, Valencia, Aston Villa, Swiss side Grasshoppers, Rangers, Houston Dynamo and Chiasso.

Meanwhile, Dyche also played as a centre-back for Nottingham Forest, Chesterfield, Bristol City, Luton Town, Milwall, Watford and Northampton Town. Very different careers indeed.

Still, at least Saliba was able to successfully name the magisterial Yaya Sanogo.
