Everton fans made their anger towards the Premier League evidently clear as they protested their points deduction against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Toffees received a ten-point deduction for breaching the league’s profit and sustainability rules. And in their first game since the deduction, they made their feelings towards the league’s hierarchy clear.

Protests from the stands began as both sets of players walked out of the tunnel to loud boos which was swiftly followed by a rapturous reception from the stands for Sean Dyche’s team. Boos then became deafening around the ground as the pre-match Premier League music was played and subsequently drowned out and pink cards reading 'corrupt' were held aloft and then re-brandished on the tenth minute.

The atmosphere within Goodison Park was silenced within minutes following kick-off as Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the best Premier League goals of all time with an unbelievable bicycle kick to give United the lead after just 3 minutes. But Everton fans continued their protests as fireworks could be heard outside of the ground during their tenth minute protest ended.

Everton have already signalled their intention to appeal the ban and the chair of the club’s Fan Advisory Board Dave Kelly said: “That’s the message of the meeting – this isn’t an Everton Football Club issue – this is a football issue, because this concerns clubs across the Premier League, and all football clubs across the country.

“We will show a worldwide audience on Sunday the Premier League has picked on the wrong club in Everton, and the wrong place in Goodison Park. But this is just the first page and first chapter of what will be an extremely long book, we won’t be going anywhere, any time soon – we want to get football back on the straight and narrow, and that means real change at the Premier League.

“We will keep this going all the way through to the end of the appeal against the sanction. And we will go through right to next year on a war footing – with fans from across the country coming together – to fight for change and justice.”

A banner was also flown over the Etihad on Saturday lunch-time during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool reading: “Premier League = Corrupt. #UTFT #EFC”. The protest organised by The 1878s supporters group could be heard on TV audio flying over the ground although commentary team Peter Drury and Gary Neville gave no mention to the flyover.
