Former Wrexham star Brett Ormerod has told the club’s star striker, Paul Mullin, to stay put as he can fulfil his football ambitions at the Welsh side. The 29-year-old dropped out of the Football League to join Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s then-National League side in the summer of 2021.

He has since gone on to score an astonishing 83 goals in 105 appearances for the Club, eight of which came in the FA Cup last season, crowning him the competition’s top scorer. His goalscoring exploits also helped Wrexham win the National League and promotion to League Two.

Stiffer competition in England’s fourth tier hasn’t seen Mullin’s goals dry up either. Mullin has seven league goals in 15 appearances, with back-to-back promotions on the cards. Wrexham currently sits second and five points behind League Two leaders, Stockport. Mullin has now been told by one of the Club’s former strikers, Ormerod, to stay put at Wrexham.

Ormerod believes that unless a top-end Championship Club comes knocking, Mullin can fulfil his football ambitions at Wrexham. “Paul Mullin is playing football and he’s happy,” Ormerod told Stocklytics. “I think it’d have to be a top Championship club to get him away from Wrexham.

“If Wrexham get promoted this year, Paul Mullin should be thinking ‘why should I go anywhere else?’. This club is going places, it’s got everything. It’s got great media coverage, he gets to meet Will Ferrell, which I’m jealous of because he’s one of my favourite actors of all time. It must be amazing to be in and around Wrexham right now, however, it does come with its own pressures I suppose.”

Ormerod added: “Fair play to Paul Mullin [for bringing out his book]. A football career is short and people get caught up looking at the a-listers. Football is like every other sport, the elite get paid a substantial amount of money and everyone else is trying to make a living out of it.
