The king of non-metropolitan jockeys is set to take his winning collection to even dizzier heights at Monday’s feature Tuncurry meeting.

Aaron Bullock, or “The Raging Bull” as he likes being called, has booted home a staggering 11 winners from his last 20 starts.

Champion jockey Aaron Bullock has a strong book on Monday.Credit: Getty

This included doubles at Taree and on Mudgee Cup day, a treble at Gosford last Friday, and four winners from five rides at Tamworth on November 28.

The renowned heavyweight rider who says he’ll never get comfortable spending plenty of time in saunas to keep the weight off, has never ridden better.

In fact, after his championship-winning 2022-23 season, Bullock has already threatened to leave his rivals behind before we even get to Christmas. That also allows for the fact he didn’t ride across a 20-day period during November.

Perhaps only Clayton Gallagher, who has a high class 14 winners from his last 32 runners, can get close to matching Bullock’s feats, and already they look set to square off in a jockey showdown heading into 2024.

Gallagher’s recent haul includes doubles at Narromine, Orange and Wellington, as well as four winners from six rides at Bathurst on November 18. And don’t think the city is beyond either of these two country-bred lads.

Gallagher booted home Class 2 Highway winner Wilbury at Rosehill on December 2; while Bullock collected a brilliant metropolitan double back in October.

The “Raging Bull” is set to dominate the Tuncurry card, including aboard progressive and well-fancied four-year-old Jack Of Aces, second-up for the Warwick Farm-based Matthew Smith stable in a Maiden Handicap over 1300m.

In the opener, he pilots improving four-year-old Tamar, stepping up sharply to the 2100m in a Benchmark 58 Handicap, and also partners talented sprinter October Revolution second-up in a Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1000m.

Bullock also hops aboard two for the Paul Shailer yard at Coffs Harbour. They are promising debutant Rock Are Steiner in a Maiden Plate over 1000m, and at bigger odds Due Diligence in a competitive Class 2 Handicap (1400m) to close the meeting.

Supplied by Racing NSW
