Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both felt that Diogo Dalot’s red card against Liverpool was “harsh”. The Portuguese defender was handed two yellow cards at once for dissent, as referee Michael Oliver deemed it worthy of two bookable offences – a Premier League first.

Neville and Carragher were both puzzled by the decision to send Dalot for an early bath in the final minutes of stoppage time. The former Manchester United defender asked: “What does dissent twice even mean? How do you break up one rant into two bookings?”

Carragher then replied: “Has he given it for dissent twice? That seems incredibly harsh for me,” before Neville then added: “Well… is that even a red card?”
