The British Open has got underway from the Centaur in Cheltenham, with the likes of Judd Trump and Luca Brecel set to feature on day one of the competition. Ronnie O’Sullivan is a notable absence from the tournament, having announced that he was withdrawing last week.
O’Sullivan was forced to pull out of the tournament for ‘medical reasons’ as his extended absence continues. The 47-year-old pulled out of the European Masters last month and remains sidelined, meaning that there is an opportunity for a new world No. 1 to be named at the British Open.
Ryan Day is hoping to defend his crown at the tournament, though the likes of Judd Trump, Luca Brecel and John Higgins will be hoping to mark their trip to Cheltenham with a victory. After tasting defeat in the final in 2022, Mark Allen will also be keen to go one better this year and he will face Anthony McGill in a tough opening day match.

Judd Trump impresses with 4-2 turnaround
Judd Trump has come from 2-0 down to secure a 4-2 win over Ukraine star Anton Kazakov, laying down a market by winning four consecutive frames to kick off his tournament in strong style.
Elsewhere, Ali Carter has beaten fellow Brit Allan Taylor 4-3 to book his spot in round two. Robert Milkins also cruised to a 4-2 success over Jiang Jun.

Luca Brecel knocked out!
World Champion Luca Brecel has been knocked out in the first round of the British Open after being beaten 4-3 by Junhui Ding. The Belgian had a good chance of becoming World No.1 but ultimately has lost to his Chinese rival for the sixth consecutive time.
