PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been sent off for a bizarre high challenge in their Ligue 1 clash against Le Havre.
The 24-year-old misjudged the flight of the ball before landing his foot high on Le Havre’s Josue Casimir.
It was no surprise that the referee walked over the Donnarumma to show him the straight red card, which the goalkeeper bizarrely contested.
This has led to reaction from fans on social media, who have ridiculed the Italian for the challenge.
One X user wrote: ‘I love how he tries to dispute it as if he wasn’t at fault!’

He pleaded his innocence but the referee had no choice but to dismiss the 24-year-old
This sentiment was shared by another football fan, who believes the referee was left with no choice.
They wrote: ‘And he has the nerve to complain, there was literally only one decision the ref could make and he got it 100% correct’.
Another fan suggested that Donnarumma had his sports mixed up in a hilarious tweer.
They said: ‘Something about keepers and being erratic – guy thought it was some Kung Fu scene’
In similar fashion, another X user joked that Donnarumma was ‘playing WWE’.
He joked: ‘Donnarumma gets a red card for playing WWE instead of football’.
And after Italy were drawn in the group of death with Croatia, Spain and Albania at Euro 2024, fans of the country have started to question their captain’s spot in the team.
‘Italy have an issue if Spalletti keeps Donnarumma as captain… it makes Gigio undroppable at a time when he’s looking less assured than ever,’ they said.
‘Donnarumma starting in Spalletti’s high line over Vicario will mean a group stage exit for Italy at the Euros’, suggested another.
It remains to be seen as to whether the goalkeeper can rediscover his form that saw him named Player of the Tournament at Euro 2020, but Italy will be hoping that he can sooner rather than later.
For now, he will have to serve a suspension in Ligue 1.
