JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

The 12 wins this season for WILLIAM BUICK on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile is easily the best tally and the champion jockey, who has ridden seven winners in the last week, will be disappointed if he doesn’t add to that tally with six good rides headed by Charlie Appleby-trained BEAUTIFUL LOVE (Newmarket, 1.40) and SHINING JEWEL (Newmarket, 2.15), RED MAIDS (Newmarket, 2.50), who he rode to victory at Haydock last time, and KARAT KARAT (Newmarket, 4.35).

TRAINER TO FOLLOW

IAIN JARDINE has trained 18 winners at Ayr this season and he has decent chances at the track’s biggest day of the Flat season. JUMP THE GUN (Ayr, 2.25) tackles the Ayr Silver Cup — alongside stablemate NEVER DARK (Ayr, 2.25) — after a return to form at Doncaster, while Hollie Doyle is booked for handicap debutant ELEMENTAL EYE (Ayr, 4.10), who has shown promise in his first three runs.

BIG DAY FOR

Lincolnshire trainer MICHAEL HERRINGTON and apprentice CONNOR PLANAS, who are represented by back-to-form RATHBONE (Ayr, 2.25), a recent winner at Sandown and Doncaster and still well below his highest winning handicap mark, in the Ayr Silver Cup. Herrington also has a big chance with GOOD EARTH (York, 4.20).

WHAT’S IN A NAME

BIELSA (Ayr, 3.35) One for Leeds United fans.

The colt, bidding to win the Ayr Gold Cup for a second time, is named after their Argentine former manager.

WATCH OUT FOR

SENSE OF DUTY (Newbury, 1.30)

Not been seen on the track since her impressive win the Group Three Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle in June last year. Entered in next month’s British Champion Sprint Stakes at Ascot.

HORSES FOR COURSES

REDARNA (Ayr, 1.15) is a veteran now but he bounced back to form at Carlisle and returns to a track where he has won seven of his 12 starts as well as finishing second twice.

TRAINER TARGET

Tom Tate has won the Turners Parks Group Handicap at Newmarket three times in the last four years, all of them with his representative EQUIANO SPRINGS (Newmarket, 3.25), who was ridden to all those wins by today’s jockey Tom Queally.

PERFECT PARTNERS

Jason Hart has ridden five winners from 11 rides for Daragh Bourke to show a £1 level stake profit of +£30.0. He rides GAINSBOURG (Ayr, 4.45) for the trainer.

BEST RACE FOR FAVOURITES

Six favourites have won the 5.20 at Ayr in the last 10 years.

TOP EARNERS

AYR: 3.35 SUMMERGHAND — £601,307; NEWBURY: 2.05 GET SHIRTY — £454,502;

NEWMARKET: 5.10 GIVE IT SOME TEDDY — £150,819;

YORK: 4.20 ARECIBO — £342,357

The Wizard of Odds – by Chris Baker

2.25 AYR – A strongly run six furlongs on ground with some ease in it should be ideal for DANZAN. He won the Bronze Cup over course and distance at this meeting last season. 11-1.

3.05 CURRAGH – Dropping back to five furlongs will suit the progressive sprinter NEVER SHOUT NEVER (nap), who was a close second in a valuable handicap at the Curragh earlier this month. 10-3.

3.35 AYR – ORAZIO showed plenty of ability when winning twice earlier in the season. Excuses can be made for his two defeats since then and he can bounce back to form. 15-2.
